The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, we serve the elderly poor in over 30 countries around the world.


Continuing the work of Saint Jeanne Jugan, our MISSION is to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself.

Our VISION is to contribute to the Culture of Life by nurturing communities where each person is valued, the solidarity of the human family and the wisdom of age are celebrated, and the compassionate love of Christ is shared with all.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity Philippines is a non-profit organization that serves Filipino families in need of decent homes. Habitat brings together partners who share the same vision of transforming lives through building responsible and sustainable communities. Established in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Philippines is a country affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International based in Georgia, USA.

For 25 years, Habitat has served over 60,000 families throughout the country and envisions that every Filipino family has a decent place to live.

With a housing backlog of 3.75 million families, there are several Filipinos living in deplorable conditions—dwelling in sub-standard housing and struggling to survive each day with only a meal or none at all.

Hope starts inside a home. Proper shelter saves lives.

Without decent home, children live in unhealthy conditions that affect their learning capabilities and curb their opportunities for development. This is manifested by the poverty landscape that 28.6 % of Filipino children below five years old are under-nourished. Performance in education also becomes poor with only six students for every 100 grade one pupils that could finish college.

A home rekindles hope and provides stability among families and communities. In decent housing, the walls are strong and the roof is secure—and the family inside focuses more on thriving than on surviving.

How to become a volunteer

More than 15,000 volunteers per year contribute almost 80,000 hours of their time and talent to Habitat for Humanity Philippines. Your volunteer action support helps Habitat build safe, decent and affordable homes for Filipino families living in need.

Whether an individual, corporate team, community group, a small group of friends, with skilled experience or not, there are many different ways for people to volunteer in the construction site or/and in the Habitat office.

Volunteers need to fill up a volunteer waiver form and submit at the site on the scheduled date of volunteering.

1. Juan Builds
Each Juan is the answer to our country. Each Juan holds the future of the Filipino people. Each Juan can make the difference. Habitat for Humanity invites each Juan to be the difference they want to see in our country by volunteering to create the change. Juan Builds combine teambuilding and corporate social responsibility or outreach. Through Juan Builds, each Juan can do it.
2. Global Village
Habitat for Humanity invites teams from around the globe to work alongside families in need of decent homes and learn the Filipino culture. Team members not only raise funds for their trip but also raise funds to donate to build homes. Home For Good Foundation

Nearly 15 Years Experience in Orphan Care and Adoption.

 

Their story begins in October 1996 when they first began working with children in a mission orphanage in the Philippines. Through an orphan hosting program, they helped their Filipino Pastor and his wife host an 8 yr. old girl from the orphanage for two weeks, so she could spend Christmas in a home with a real family. In that brief time, the girl had so thoroughly bonded with the family that she did not want to go back to the orphanage, and the Pastor told them they wanted to adopt her, but couldn't affort it. They recall thinking to themselves at the time, "Wouldn't it be wonderful if I could just hand him the money to make her adoption possible?"

 

Not understanding the legal process, he asked if she could just stay with them and never go back to the orphanage, but that was not to be. Observing the anguish the girl suffered as I returned her to the orphanage, I began asking myself, "What's wrong with this picture?" That picture will haunt me for the rest of my life and that was the day the Lord planted the vision for Adoption Ministry in my heart, and it has changed my life forever.

 

But, He still wanted us to spend six years of intensive hands-on training in the orphanage to give us a thorough understanding of the hearts and minds of orphans, and their desperate longing for a loving family and a home for good. That's why we were eager to obey in 2002, when He called us to establish the Home For Good Foundation, which happened in March 2003.

Statement of Faith

We believe:

The Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

That regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential to the salvation of sinful people, and that men are saved by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ, and not by works.

In the ever-present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those that are saved, unto the resurrection of eternal life and those that are lost, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Home For Good Foundation volunteer opportunities

Volunteer to take books to Bible Colleges and Church Book Stores. Help with news letter writing and computer website updating. Are you a Christian writer? We can use someone to produce Sunday school materials on adoption. Grant writing and follow up. Volunteer at special events to help staff our table.

Foster Care
Foster care is a special calling. You can find out how to become a foster parent and what it involves by contacting Norfil or KBF. They will be thrilled to hear from you. They offer seminars to teach you what you need to know. There is a process to becoming legally licensed foster parent. It does not cost anything to do this although we do suggest a donation if you are able to give just to cover the one time cost of getting you started. The foundation you choose to work with will become your partner in caring for a child, will place a child with you and will follow up along the way. They also pay a small stipend to help you cover the cost of feeding the child who is placed in your care. Foster care is a good alternative to institutional care while a child is waiting for a permanent family to adopt them.

Support a child in foster care or in institutional care
While supporting a child or the family or institution they live in is a rather obvious suggestion on how to help. It deserves mentioning. Most of the institutions in the Philippines are NGO's. Foster families receive very little help. That means they must come up with funds from donation. While sometimes there are livelihood projects that help raise some funds, donations are the primary support. If you know of a foster family you might consider making them a target of your benevolence. Get to know them and find out what they need.

Developing World Connections

Who we are.

Developing World Connections provides International Volunteer Experiences to people of all ages and backgrounds. We connect volunteers to communities in developing nations to work on sustainable projects that better the lives of some of the world's most impoverished people.

We are a grassroots, registered non-profit, and Canadian Charitable Organization with no professional, political, or religious affiliation.

OUR STORY

In 2000, DWC President Wayne McRann and Board member Dan Miller were working on a Rotary project in the jungles of Guatemala. They were assisting in the installation of a water system to improve the livelihoods of local community members. The desire to share the joy of this experience spawned the concept of Developing World Connections. What began as an idea became a reality in 2004 when DWC was formed. Shortly after, the tragic Boxing Day tsunami hit Sri Lanka. Developing World Connections quickly mobilized a grassroots response to help rebuild lives. We became a registered charity in 2005, and we began a grassroots movement. Since then, we have sent nearly 2000 volunteers to work on sustainable projects in host communities in 13 countries.

How Can I Make a Difference?

By becoming a volunteer, you contribute both your physicall and financial resources. You will work side by side with local community members on a sustainable project they've selected. More often than not, this involves building homes, community centres, schools, and livelihood centres. A substantial portion of the cost of your trip goes directly to the Host Partner for supplies, equipment and building materials, local paid labour, and operating programs within the community.

Join a pre-arranged short-term project or four-week student trip, or create your own customized trip. Build a team of family, friends, colleagues, classmates, or a special interest group. Developing World Connections will arrange everything from flights, in-country transport, accommodation and meals to project materials and labour. Plus, the entire amount paid through DWC, flight airfare included, is deemed a charitable donation, which means it is 100% tax deductible. You can also fundraise to help meet the cost of your trip, and DWC will issue charitable tax receipts to those who donate on your behalf.

The mission of Make-A-Wish Foundation® is to create hope and happiness for children with life threatening illnesses around the world.

Make-A-Wish® Philippines grants wishes of children in their territory, whatever economic status, gender and religion.

WHO ARE QUALIFIED?

Children who have been diagnosed by their physician as having an illness that is life-threatening, not necessarily terminal, and who are between three and eighteen years of age at the time of referral, are eligible for a wish.

They must be referred to the Foundation and determined to be medically eligible for a wish grant by their physician based on the Foundation’s list of medical illnesses that are life-threatening. The child must clearly express what they wish for. Then the child’s treating physician along with the Foundation make the final determination whether a child’s medical condition qualifies him or her to be a wishchild. More detailed guidelines on eligibility are provided to medical professionals upon request.

Make-A-Wish® does not give out cash donations to its beneficiaries. The Foundation does not give any medical assistance in any form as well.

Arnel Pineda Foundation, Inc. (APFI) is a non-stock, non-profit, and independent Philippine foundation that provides underprivileged children quality education, health services and medical attention.
For millions of youth in developing countries like the Philippines, education is seemingly beyond reach. Poverty and inadequate government support stifle the future aspirations of Filipino children. Hence, Arnel Pineda Foundation, Inc. (APFI) was formed, principally to address their sad plight by preparing them for a brighter future through education.
For APFI founder Arnel Pineda, the story starts the day he set foot on the streets of Manila, trying to survive on his own at the age of 14. Following his beloved mother’s illness that put his family in dire financial straits, Arnel experienced first-hand that survival for a street kid is a persistent – and most often – losing battle.

Today, blessed with the capability to give back, Arnel mobilizes his team to join the battle against poverty and its ensuing havoc on Philippine youth. His ongoing tenure as frontman of the American rock band Journey has allowed many individuals with shared goals to know him and join in helping children rise above their circumstances. You could join in making a difference in others’ lives – however little you can share.

You can help APFI make a difference in many ways
The street kids need a lot of life-sustaining assistance from us, but we can accomplish great things by working together. There are several ways you can get involved with our work:
1. Help raise awareness about the children’s plight by telling your friends and family about APFi. The more people learn about our efforts, the more help we can potentially receive and in turn offer to those in need.
2. Volunteer your time and talent. We welcome your help in any of our projects! We are looking to assign groups and rotate tasks. Please contact us if you wish to be part of the volunteer team.

Here are some red flags of a potential human trafficking victim:

1. Large groups traveling together (especially women and children) who are accompanied by one or two adults .
   The group will most normally appear to be aloof to both each other and to other people around them.
2. Recruiter has no valid or authentic license to operate.
3. Recruit has no employment contract.
4. Recruit’s documents (birth certificates, passports) have been falsified and tampered.
5. Working conditions, parameters have not been clearly stipulated (e.g. salaries, place of work, nature of work, and other pertinent information) or clearly explained to the recruits.
6. Recruit is asked to lie to authorities regarding the nature of their recruitment or work.
7. Movements are heavily guarded and monitored by recruiters.
8. Recruit is not allowed to talk and disclose any information to anyone.
9. Recruiter confiscates pertinent documents such as passports, travel tickets, cellphone and other modes of communication from the recruit.
10. Recruit is indebted to his/her employer/recruiter even prior to working.
11. Recruit as well as his/her family is being threatened by recruiters.

CSC’s fund saving efforts are supported by a number of faithful and hard-working volunteers who provide a number of important services to the ministry. Throughout the year a group of faithful vounteers gets together in Cambridge, Minnesota to process our mailing. We'd be glad to have you join us! In addition to mailings, we have had volunteer help in a number of areas over the years, including carpentry, computer work, sorting and packing donations, consultancy, media production, banquet set-up, artwork, editing, committee work and, of course, board leadership. CRIBS Foundation, Inc. (formerly C.R.I.B.S. PHILIPPINES, INC.) was started in 1974 when two Lutheran missionary wives brought home two children from the Reception and Study Center (RSCC) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. CRIBS was the first non-government organization (NGO) in the Philippines to implement Foster Care Program. 

In 1979, CRIBS was incorporated as a non-profit, non-stock, non-government with the Securities and Exchange Commission. On the same year, it opened its home, called Receiving Home. Receiving Home Program which provides an alternative home environment for abandoned, surrendered, neglected and dependent children aged 0-2½ years old with end goal of permanently placing them in either their birth families or relatives or adoptive family. It is staffed with compassionate, professional and committed caregivers 24 hours a day.

• Schedule is from Monday (9-11AM or 2-4PM), Tuesday (9-11AM or 2-4PM), Wednesday (9-11AM), Thursday (9-11AM), Friday (9-11AM)
• Please bring any valid government issued ID's preferably with photo.  "No ID no entry policy".
• We strictly do not allow any pictures or videos taken together with our children, as one of our thrust is to protect and keep them safe under our care.

All volunteers applying on a regular basis shall go through the standard procedure as follows:

• Filling up application form
• Passing of requirements
• Interview
• Orientation

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society

Share your talent, skill and passion for the animals. 

Thank you for your interest in PAWS Volunteer Program where you can share your talent and skill for the welfare of the animals. Fill out the volunteer application form and attend the next scheduled volunteer orientation. Visit the shelter to see what assignment best suits you. 

You can help out by actively participating in our campaigns, designing fliers and brochures to be given out to barangays and posted on veterinary clinics and neighborhood message boards to create awareness. 

You can also assist in our clinic or just help clean up the animal areas in the shelter. If you’d like to do animal care, walking the dogs or cleaning the eyes and ears of the cats in the cattery or simply stroking  them  makes a lot of difference in socializing and  making  them more adoptable. 

There are still a lot of ways you can help. Below is a list of tasks that you can do.

Office Assistant –  Man the office, process adoption paperwork (including counseling), answer  the telephone  and assist  callers and visitors  with general questions/directions.  This includes giving a tour of PARC to visitors and guests, informing  them on the role of the animal shelter in educating the public  and creating awareness on  the plight of the animals in the country and what they can do to help.

Direct Animal Care - Assist approved adopters, walk the dogs and/or puppies, socialize the cats/kittens, clean cages, help with feeding, bathing, medication and basic grooming as needed.

Adoption Team - members of this team do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to get more "exposure" for shelter animals and tell their stories to increase their chances of getting adopted. Some members are also bloggers who try to utilize the web to spread the word about adoption! You can become part of the team by simply blogging!

Match-Maker -  Works side by side with the adoption team,  the matchmaker  matches animals with adopters who are looking for a particular breed or breed mix, personality traits, specific size, sex or age. 

Adoption Follow-up – Monitors adoption cases to see how the animals and their guardians are getting along. The program was developed to assure fewer returned animals. These calls may be made from home or office.

Clinic Technician Assistant - Assist PARC veterinarian in the clinic.  This includes preparing medications and assist  in spaying and/or neutering of shelter animals.  Proper training and close monitoring of the veterinarian is strictly implemented.

Foster Care - Care for shelter animals in your home. These animals are future adoption candidates too young or ill at the time of admission. All medicine and supplies will be provided by PARC. Additional training is required.

Animal Rescue Team - rescues animals in distress

Dog Training and Rehabilitation Team -  Works in close coordination with volunteer trainers  and senior volunteers/dog handlers with the  task of making shelter dogs fit for adoption by socializing them and working on their behavioral problems like aggression, fear or shyness.  Interested volunteers should have rabies pre-exposure  shots and should undergo special training with our volunteer trainers and dog behaviorists.

Humane Education - Gives presentation at elementary schools regarding issues such as responsible pet ownership, pet handling and safety, pet overpopulation and endangered species.

Campaigns - complements all the major projects of the organization with flyers, posters, celebrity endorsements, organizing protest rallies, etc

Dr. Dog (Pet-Facilitated Therapy)– Together with certified Dr. Dogs, volunteers visit nursing homes, adult day-care centers, hospitals, schools and other establishments.  They give patients the feeling that they are the most special people in world. With a loyal new friend who won't judge them for the way they look or their illness, a Dr. Dog accepts them regardless of class, race, age or disability. Despite the advances in medical science, our Dr. Dog partners agree that love is still the best medicine!


Spay-Neuter Team - main goal: raise its own funds to be able to offer free spay-neuter to those who cannot afford even PAWS' low cost spay-neuter rates. (Done in close coordination with Shelter Veterinarian)


Special Events - Represent PAWS in local events where PAWS is actively participating, helps in manning adoption booths and selling paws merchandise.

Disaster Relief -  Assist the disaster  relief  team in the disaster site or at command posts.

Fundraising Events –   Help out in organizing events to raise funds for the shelter.

Lobbying and legal work - meeting with government officials, attending hearings, giving legal assistance to those who want to file cases against animal offenders


Reminder: Volunteers must be prepared to render at least eight (8) hours a month doing work at the shelter or outside the shelter for animal welfare to be in our active volunteer database.

In Philippines, Volunteering Solutions offers volunteer projects in and around Tacloban city in the island of Leyte. We have two volunteer opportunities in Tacloban, Orphanage Volunteer work and volunteering opportunity at rural medical clinics. Both requires volunteers to put in a minimum volunteering work hours of 5 hours a day for 5 days. Our international volunteers use their weekends for traveling around the city or for making short trips.
