Thus, aside from instilling academic excellence in its students, the University also molds future leaders who would be at the forefront of nation-building.

Among such programs, Gawad Kalinga (“to bestow care”)- Ateneo envisions a new Philippines and world with no more slums, by building homes and vibrant communities in depressed areas. Pathways to Higher Education assists academically-gifted but underprivileged youth from the public school system obtain a complete college education. The Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) helps public basic education units achieve high degrees of school performance in order to produce competent and well-rounded students and citizens. And the Disaster Response and Management Team joins other sectors of society in attending to the desperate situations of victims of natural calamities.

Gualandi Mission for the Deaf

Gualandi Mission for the Deaf is an independent entity and was duly registered as a non-profit organization at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in April 27 2005. Though it is an independent organization in its management and administration from the Gualandi Mission for the Deaf; it remained still as its Volunteering Program. GVSP is a member of Volunteer Organizations Information Coordination and Exchange, Inc. (VOICE Network) and Organization of Rehabilitation Agencies, Inc. (ORA).

• To enable the Deaf to grow and develops as independent, integrated, fully human and empowered citizens in the hearing society and in the Church through volunteering efforts.
• To train and form volunteers with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to become competent and creative people; who are open to change; having a deep sense of justice and faith expressed in their concern and commitment to the service of the disadvantaged especially the Deaf.
• Deepen her/his acceptance of self and others and to develop the inner freedom to make a responsible commitment as volunteers.
• Develop his/her being as a person for others in relationships with the Deaf, fellow volunteers and people in general.
• Deepen the volunteers desire to serve and love unconditionally so as to intensify her/his appreciation and exercise of her/his volunteer involvement especially with the Deaf.
• Provide a support system and continuing education for volunteers.

Volunteer tasks

Assist the trainers/facilitators in volunteer preparation activities. Assist the capacity building programs and activities. Assist the staff in the daily office work like development of promotional materials like print, audio and video presentations. Assist volunteer related advocacy campaigns in schools, communities, institutions and other events. Assist other relevant activities of the organization. Mingle with the children/volunteers and other clients/partners without prejudice and to share also his/her experiences from the country where s/he came from.

UNICEF

UNICEF is an agency of the United Nations devoted to serving the world's children. UNICEF began providing assistance to the Philippines in November 1948. Since then, UNICEF and the Philippine government have been partners in protecting Filipino children.

UNICEF Philippines has more than 60 people working to promote and protect the rights of children. They aim to provide the best quality of life for every Filipino child through programmes that help them survive and flourish.

They implement programmes covering education, health and nutrition, disaster risk reduction and emergencies, HIV and AIDS prevention, child protection, communication, and local policy and institutional development. 

UNICEF's Country Programme for Children 7 (2012–2016)
Lessons learned from UNICEF's work in the Philippines for over sixty years recognizes its capacity to advocate for children's issues, its ability to influence local leaders to plan and budget for children, and its push for national and local laws that promote and protect children's rights.

Continuing gains
UNICEF worked to promote and protect important legislation such as the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act (2006) and the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the National Milk Code (2007). As a partner in in the Child-Friendly Movement, UNICEF carried out intensive campaigns to prevent malnutrition, promote good hygiene, initiate early learning and encourage children’s participation. 

The 24 focus provincial and city governments adopted child-friendly plans, laws and reports and at least 20 per cent of local budgets were allocated to social services. Fifty-eight per cent of barangays assessed themselves as child-friendly and 90 per cent of Filipino children were immunized. The country also attained polio-free status and is working to eliminate measles and maternal and neonatal tetanus. HIV and STI prevention were integrated into the package of health services. The education programme contributed to increasing the number of children attending day care.

Sharpening the focus  
UNICEF is an active partner of the Government of the Philippines and civil society in realizing the rights of every Filipino child, in line with priorities to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Component 1 focuses on services and systems while Component 2 focuses on policies to reach out to the most disadvantaged children affected by growing urbanization, conflict and natural disasters. 
UNICEF efforts will focus on the most vulnerable regions identified by the Government of the Philippines Development Plan, particularly in the regions of Visayas and Mindanao. To ensure that interventions are sustainable and scaled up, UNICEF will support primarily local government units (LGUs) as the main instruments of delivering services and building systems. The level of engagement with government institutions will take into account capacities, economies of scale and sector issues. Lessons from this approach will be used for development of policies to address specific risks and encourage nationwide implementation. 
The new country programme will support the Government’s strategy to put equity at the heart of the development agenda through the Conditional Cash Transfer programme, incentives and performance-based mechanisms.

Ensure that the workplace is child friendly by implementing codes of conduct and other ethical standards that do not allow child labor or sexual exploitation of children. Internet cafes should not have closed cubicles where children might engage with sexual predators for profit. Travel and tourism operators should train their employees on how to spot and report pedophiles.

Develop socially responsible projects for your employees, their families and children and allow them to be involved in programs in the community where you work.

Make the office, mall, restaurant or gallery a child friendly space. Designate a breastfeeding room in the office where mothers can breastfeed their babies. Allow children’s organizations and youth groups to hold their activities in your auditorium, basketball court or arena.

Initiate cause-related marketing that promotes children’s rights while raising funds for UNICEF or other child rights NGOs in your area.

Give awards and scholarship programs to recognize children who are making a difference in their communities.

The dedication and support of these volunteers makes it possible for AFS Participants to embark on life-changing journeys of personal growth. 
AFS Volunteers contribute their time and energy to help people develop the foundation to become responsible global citizens. During this process, they also have the opportunity to take part in an intercultural learning experience. Through their work with participants and host families, volunteers can learn more about their own cultures, practice other languages, develop leadership skills and take part in community activities.

AFS is Volunteer-Driven

With only 750 full-time staff members, AFS relies heavily on a global network of volunteers to run successful exchange programs. There are more than 40,000 AFS Volunteers who are active at every level of the organization, from grassroots efforts within the community to policy development roles on national and international boards. For program participants, these people are the primary point of contact and support within the community. They recruit and screen candidates and host families, organize orientations and group gatherings, act as liaisons with host schools and even organize social activities.

In order to ensure that participants are supported throughout the exchange experience, volunteers are present in all the countries that AFS programs operate, as well as nearly all the communities with AFS activities or events. They are carefully trained and coached in the beginning by more experienced volunteers.

Summer Institute of Linguistics

Anthropology in SIL promotes sociocultural awareness, supports ethnographic research, and provides resources for cultural documentation.

Anthropology has historically explored the details of human existence. It offers ways to help understand people and their sociocultural environments.

Socio-cultural environments influence people’s behavior and help define their identity. Society is the organizational and structural scaffolding that surrounds people, while culture refers to the meaning generated within the social environment. Understanding society and culture means being able to comprehend a complex web of tradition and change, physical and symbolic, sacred and mundane. As environments change, so do people and vice versa. The dynamic interaction between people and their environments produces a fascinating array of diversity. Building awareness of these complexities through training, research and technical resources is the goal of Anthropology in SIL.

Research: SIL promotes ethnographic research and publishes its findings in books, journals and online at Ethnologue.com and SIL Electronic Working Papers.

Developing World Connections

Who we are.

Developing World Connections provides International Volunteer Experiences to people of all ages and backgrounds. We connect volunteers to communities in developing nations to work on sustainable projects that better the lives of some of the world's most impoverished people.

We are a grassroots, registered non-profit, and Canadian Charitable Organization with no professional, political, or religious affiliation.

OUR STORY

In 2000, DWC President Wayne McRann and Board member Dan Miller were working on a Rotary project in the jungles of Guatemala. They were assisting in the installation of a water system to improve the livelihoods of local community members. The desire to share the joy of this experience spawned the concept of Developing World Connections. What began as an idea became a reality in 2004 when DWC was formed. Shortly after, the tragic Boxing Day tsunami hit Sri Lanka. Developing World Connections quickly mobilized a grassroots response to help rebuild lives. We became a registered charity in 2005, and we began a grassroots movement. Since then, we have sent nearly 2000 volunteers to work on sustainable projects in host communities in 13 countries.

We believe that working alongside local people in the developing world on a poverty alleviating project builds hope. Hope for the community, hope for the volunteer, and hope for a better, more peaceful world.

How Can I Make a Difference?

Become a participant and join us on an International Volunteer Experience:

By becoming a volunteer, you contribute both your physicall and financial resources. You will work side by side with local community members on a sustainable project they've selected. More often than not, this involves building homes, community centres, schools, and livelihood centres. A substantial portion of the cost of your trip goes directly to the Host Partner for supplies, equipment and building materials, local paid labour, and operating programs within the community.

Join a pre-arranged short-term project or four-week student trip, or create your own customized trip. Build a team of family, friends, colleagues, classmates, or a special interest group. Developing World Connections will arrange everything from flights, in-country transport, accommodation and meals to project materials and labour. Plus, the entire amount paid through DWC, flight airfare included, is deemed a charitable donation, which means it is 100% tax deductible. You can also fundraise to help meet the cost of your trip, and DWC will issue charitable tax receipts to those who donate on your behalf.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Make-A-Wish Foundation® is to create hope and happiness for children with life threatening illnesses around the world.

Make-A-Wish® Philippines grants wishes of children in their territory, whatever economic status, gender and religion.

WHO ARE QUALIFIED?

Children who have been diagnosed by their physician as having an illness that is life-threatening, not necessarily terminal, and who are between three and eighteen years of age at the time of referral, are eligible for a wish.

They must be referred to the Foundation and determined to be medically eligible for a wish grant by their physician based on the Foundation’s list of medical illnesses that are life-threatening. The child must clearly express what they wish for. Then the child’s treating physician along with the Foundation make the final determination whether a child’s medical condition qualifies him or her to be a wishchild. More detailed guidelines on eligibility are provided to medical professionals upon request.

Make-A-Wish® does not give out cash donations to its beneficiaries. The Foundation does not give any medical assistance in any form as well.

Arnel Pineda Foundation, Inc. (APFI) is a non-stock, non-profit, and independent Philippine foundation that provides underprivileged children quality education, health services and medical attention.
For millions of youth in developing countries like the Philippines, education is seemingly beyond reach. Poverty and inadequate government support stifle the future aspirations of Filipino children. Hence, Arnel Pineda Foundation, Inc. (APFI) was formed, principally to address their sad plight by preparing them for a brighter future through education.
For APFI founder Arnel Pineda, the story starts the day he set foot on the streets of Manila, trying to survive on his own at the age of 14. Following his beloved mother’s illness that put his family in dire financial straits, Arnel experienced first-hand that survival for a street kid is a persistent – and most often – losing battle.

Today, blessed with the capability to give back, Arnel mobilizes his team to join the battle against poverty and its ensuing havoc on Philippine youth. His ongoing tenure as frontman of the American rock band Journey has allowed many individuals with shared goals to know him and join in helping children rise above their circumstances. You could join in making a difference in others’ lives – however little you can share.

You can help APFI make a difference in many ways
The street kids need a lot of life-sustaining assistance from us, but we can accomplish great things by working together. There are several ways you can get involved with our work:
1. Help raise awareness about the children’s plight by telling your friends and family about APFi. The more people learn about our efforts, the more help we can potentially receive and in turn offer to those in need.
2. Volunteer your time and talent. We welcome your help in any of our projects! We are looking to assign groups and rotate tasks. Please contact us if you wish to be part of the volunteer team.

Here are some red flags of a potential human trafficking victim:

1. Large groups traveling together (especially women and children) who are accompanied by one or two adults .
   The group will most normally appear to be aloof to both each other and to other people around them.
2. Recruiter has no valid or authentic license to operate.
3. Recruit has no employment contract.
4. Recruit’s documents (birth certificates, passports) have been falsified and tampered.
5. Working conditions, parameters have not been clearly stipulated (e.g. salaries, place of work, nature of work, and other pertinent information) or clearly explained to the recruits.
6. Recruit is asked to lie to authorities regarding the nature of their recruitment or work.
7. Movements are heavily guarded and monitored by recruiters.
8. Recruit is not allowed to talk and disclose any information to anyone.
9. Recruiter confiscates pertinent documents such as passports, travel tickets, cellphone and other modes of communication from the recruit.
10. Recruit is indebted to his/her employer/recruiter even prior to working.
11. Recruit as well as his/her family is being threatened by recruiters.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society

Share your talent, skill and passion for the animals. 

Thank you for your interest in PAWS Volunteer Program where you can share your talent and skill for the welfare of the animals. Fill out the volunteer application form and attend the next scheduled volunteer orientation. Visit the shelter to see what assignment best suits you. 

You can help out by actively participating in our campaigns, designing fliers and brochures to be given out to barangays and posted on veterinary clinics and neighborhood message boards to create awareness. 

You can also assist in our clinic or just help clean up the animal areas in the shelter. If you’d like to do animal care, walking the dogs or cleaning the eyes and ears of the cats in the cattery or simply stroking  them  makes a lot of difference in socializing and  making  them more adoptable. 

There are still a lot of ways you can help. Below is a list of tasks that you can do.

Office Assistant –  Man the office, process adoption paperwork (including counseling), answer  the telephone  and assist  callers and visitors  with general questions/directions.  This includes giving a tour of PARC to visitors and guests, informing  them on the role of the animal shelter in educating the public  and creating awareness on  the plight of the animals in the country and what they can do to help.

Direct Animal Care - Assist approved adopters, walk the dogs and/or puppies, socialize the cats/kittens, clean cages, help with feeding, bathing, medication and basic grooming as needed.

Adoption Team - members of this team do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to get more "exposure" for shelter animals and tell their stories to increase their chances of getting adopted. Some members are also bloggers who try to utilize the web to spread the word about adoption! You can become part of the team by simply blogging!

Match-Maker -  Works side by side with the adoption team,  the matchmaker  matches animals with adopters who are looking for a particular breed or breed mix, personality traits, specific size, sex or age. 

Adoption Follow-up – Monitors adoption cases to see how the animals and their guardians are getting along. The program was developed to assure fewer returned animals. These calls may be made from home or office.

Clinic Technician Assistant - Assist PARC veterinarian in the clinic.  This includes preparing medications and assist  in spaying and/or neutering of shelter animals.  Proper training and close monitoring of the veterinarian is strictly implemented.

Foster Care - Care for shelter animals in your home. These animals are future adoption candidates too young or ill at the time of admission. All medicine and supplies will be provided by PARC. Additional training is required.

Animal Rescue Team - rescues animals in distress

Dog Training and Rehabilitation Team -  Works in close coordination with volunteer trainers  and senior volunteers/dog handlers with the  task of making shelter dogs fit for adoption by socializing them and working on their behavioral problems like aggression, fear or shyness.  Interested volunteers should have rabies pre-exposure  shots and should undergo special training with our volunteer trainers and dog behaviorists.

Humane Education - Gives presentation at elementary schools regarding issues such as responsible pet ownership, pet handling and safety, pet overpopulation and endangered species.

Campaigns - complements all the major projects of the organization with flyers, posters, celebrity endorsements, organizing protest rallies, etc

Dr. Dog (Pet-Facilitated Therapy)– Together with certified Dr. Dogs, volunteers visit nursing homes, adult day-care centers, hospitals, schools and other establishments.  They give patients the feeling that they are the most special people in world. With a loyal new friend who won't judge them for the way they look or their illness, a Dr. Dog accepts them regardless of class, race, age or disability. Despite the advances in medical science, our Dr. Dog partners agree that love is still the best medicine!


Spay-Neuter Team - main goal: raise its own funds to be able to offer free spay-neuter to those who cannot afford even PAWS' low cost spay-neuter rates. (Done in close coordination with Shelter Veterinarian)


Special Events - Represent PAWS in local events where PAWS is actively participating, helps in manning adoption booths and selling paws merchandise.

Disaster Relief -  Assist the disaster  relief  team in the disaster site or at command posts.

Fundraising Events –   Help out in organizing events to raise funds for the shelter.

Lobbying and legal work - meeting with government officials, attending hearings, giving legal assistance to those who want to file cases against animal offenders


Reminder: Volunteers must be prepared to render at least eight (8) hours a month doing work at the shelter or outside the shelter for animal welfare to be in our active volunteer database.

DLSU Volunteer Program

The Lasallian Family can look back at a long legacy of volunteerism, of competent and compassionate graduates and teachers, Lasallians who took a different path, who chose to devote an important part of their lives by being with the poor.

In 1994, the Lasallian Volunteer Program was set up by the District to formally recognize the volunteer spirit and initiatives which had expanded over the years.

Since the, batches of graduates have been trained and sent off to teach and serve in La Salle schools and poor communities all over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Wherever these LaSallian Volunteers (LSVs) were sent, they vowed to share a human and Christian education with the young and the poor in their everyday ministry.

Today, communities of LaSallian Volunteers are found in poor mission areas where there are pressing needs, primarily in the education of children and youth-at-risk. Graduates, teachers and staff members from Lasallian schools make up these LSV communities. The LSV communities enter the mission area with a set goal of initiating and implementing a sustainable educational program for youth-at-risk in the area.

The educational programs introduced are eventually turned over to the care of the community within a specified period of time, thus empowering the mission area in program conceptualization, implementation and evaluation

• an alumnus / alumna, faculty member or staff member of any La Salle school or supervised school

• willing to serve anywhere in the Philippines for a term of at least one school year

Dynamic Team Company

About the Org (Taken from Org Website):
The Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) was founded in 1997 by four teenagers,
Efren Penaflorida, Jr., Jefferson Bernal, Reczel Alconcel Fajardo and mentor Bonn
Manalaysay from Cavite National Highschool, who aimed to discourage students
from joining violent gangs and notorious fraternities through engaging programs
that focused on talent and self-development. The group positioned DTC and their
activities as the best form of retaliation or ‘resbak’ from the bullying of gang
members.

Through a partnership with Club 8586 Inc., a non-profit, people development
organization that share the same mission as DTC, the group rolled out community
service and out-reach programs in Cavite City, and trained under Club 8586 to
become self-sufficient.

Following the training under Club 8586, Inc., the group was able to roll-out and
support their projects through fund raising initiatives such as concert performances
showcasing the talents of DTC members and by selling newspapers, bottles and
other recycled products. These efforts paved the way for DTC to train more youth
leaders, and purchase their first pedicab for their literacy and feeding programs.
Today, DTC has been successfully reaching out to communities through a weekly
outreach program under the K4 Project (Kartion Klasrum, Klinik at Kantina). Other
programs of DTC include the L.E.A.P and D.O.S.E.

The founders of DTC find fulfillment as they slowly grow the number of youths
being transformed through their programs. Transformed youth, who used to be
drug users, petty thieves, scavengers, street kids, drop-outs and out-of-school
youth are now DTC volunteers and have returned to mainstream education. While
some of the children remain out of school they, at least, are able to access basic
education through K4.

For DTC, educating children outside the classroom is their life’s mission and they
will strive harder to give the underprivileged children a better fighting chance at
life.
